An expected healthy waddle according to plan

It is mid of March and Michi has trained until 2 weeks ago every week about 35h. The 70.3 Lanzarote was the plan of the build-up block - because competition is the best training!

70.3 Lanza in a nutshell
The swim was passable, Michi felt better from stroke to stroke. After 1.9km he got out of the water with a group around Bart Aernouts.

Watt a ride
A faux pas happens even to the best! After the SRM Powermeter Head Unit was forgotten in the room on race morning, Michi was also missing the watts on the bike :-) As expected, fatigue of the last weeks made itself felt on the 90km on the bike. As a lonely ranger he switched to cruise mode and saw the challenging course with 1200 meters altitude as a good training. The focus was now on the run.

Test against the best
Also on the curvy run course 250 meters altitude had to be completed. In the first lap the top runners came from behind - Challenge accepted! Michi kept the distance to New Zealand's Kyle Smith (2nd in the final ranking) for one of the 5km laps, before he ran one lap with the winner Léo Bergère.
For him it was a test to see if he could keep up with the fastest in competition conditions. In the duel it worked and he was able to set very good running accents.

Now he spends another week with his family in Lanzarote and treats himself to some regenerative days directly after the competition.

Keep calm and move on
Now it is important to keep calm and to continue with the plan. The view is directed forward. The next race in California, the 70.3 Oceanside, will be more result-oriented. With regard to the big goal, the IRONMAN World Championships in St. George in 7 weeks, it was the perfect competition load! Until then there is still some work to do to perfect the shape.

Adios Lanza, see ya soon Cali!
